This is actually what I found on the front page of USDA.gov today:

Let’s start from the top:

  1. Senate Democrats have not voted to “not fund the food stamp program.” Ludicrous. First of all, democrats are continually trying to expand SNAP to meet the increasing need. Second, the bill they currently oppose decimates SNAP, even after the shutdown ends.
  2. The well has not run dry. Yes, there is a dispute over the bill, but there are billions of dollars available in case of just such an emergency, earmarked specifically to supplement SNAP.
  3. Who is “we” and wasn’t the inflection point the first opportunity to vote on this bill? We’ve already passed the inflection point.
  4. Nobody has ever voted for “gender mutilation procedures” – I have no idea what that even means, but I suspect they’re talking about gender reassignment surgeries. I’d love to find out the actual amount of tax payer dollars that has been used for this purpose. Then, I’d like to find out how much it costs to murder folks on a boat suspected to have drugs on it. I bet missiles cost more than vaginas.
  5. “Illegal aliens.” This is an office of the U.S. government using that disgusting terminology. It’s antithetical to the idea of what America is and could be. How many charts do people need to see showing the net good that immigrants provide their communities? How many folks that they actually know need to be shoved in a van and carted off?
  6. Again, they could receive critical nutrition assistance now (well, after 11/1) if the current administration wasn’t blocking the funding put in place for this kind of situation. Last I read, a judge is trying to unblock those funds.

I hear people vilifying Hamas for using kids and hospital patients as “human shields” (rightfully so), but isn’t this the same thing? Are the Senate Republicans not equally capable of finding a middle ground or flat-out changing their bill to ensure “critical nutrition assistance” is available?

The Republican party has majorities everywhere and yet they’re still the victim. Sometimes it’s Biden they can’t overcome, and sometimes it’s Obama (not in office for over a decade) that keeps them awake at night. It’s pathetic. To be clear, I’m not talking about Republican voters, but rather the cadre still holding water for this administration. I don’t know how they sleep at night.
