Here’s another one of those songs from my youth that I had essentially forgotten about, but upon hearing it again, knew every chord change and most of the lyrics. I saw Shellac in Iowa City last week, and Bob Weston talked about playing at the same venue (Gabe’s) with Volcano Suns back in the day. I never put it together that he was in Volcano Suns, but Jak was on a cassette I recorded off my FM radio while listening to WNUR, probably in 1985 or 1986. I played that tape hundreds of times. Maybe thousands. WNUR was the only real radio connection to the music that was moving me at the time. Hearing this song again not only brought back my fond feelings for the Volcano Suns, but also for WNUR, and my youth in general.
