Well, I fell down a 1980s musical rabbit hole. I was reminded of the early days of Music Television (AKA MTV) and the cheap, low-end videos that could launch (or sustain) a music career. Back then, the Buggles, Wall of Voodoo, and Berlin held court.
A bar band like Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen also got a shot, although I don’t think MTV made them a household name. Lots of people already knew them from their semi-hit Hot Rod Lincoln, which probably got this video off the ground and on the air in the first place:
